If you are receiving a 40014 error when accessing Star Citizen, specifically Persistent Universe, you may be encountering an access issue. Let's get you back into the 'Verse!
As with all errors that our players encounter, we want to encourage everyone to report the situation on the Issue Council. This step to troubleshooting is very important so that our teams can gather data about problems and issues our players are experiencing so we can remedy the causes at the root.
!!!IMPORTANT!!!
We have seen an increase of reports of players receiving the 40014 error, which can unfortunately prevent them from entering the game. There has been some mentions that some players have been able to access Arena Commander, but this does not seem to be consistent with all instances of the error.
We are actively tracking and looking for a solution to this and are seeking additional information, including any possible workarounds that have been found. If you encounter this error, please help us out by adding your information to this Issue Council report: STARC-62473
Possible Port In-Use
CIG uses a specific range of ports for the game, cloud servers, Hub, and more. We tend to use one specific for the game - 64090. Depending on issues, access, and so on, our cloud servers may cycle through the port range. These ports include: TCP 8000 - 8020 and UDP 64090 - 64110.
However, one of those ports (UDP 64090 - 64110) may already be in use on your router/ISP router by another game, service, or application. If already in use, your computer assumes this is a Blat attack/form of DDoS attack. You can check the ports on your router, or contact your ISP for help.
PC to Router Connectivity
It is possible that a connection factor between the PC and the router is preventing the client from connecting to RSI servers. Try the following steps to resolve this:
- Ensure that Star Citizen is added as an exception to your Firewall.
- Disable/uninstall any network-optimization or packet-shaping software/drivers that could be malforming the connection between RSI servers and your device.
- Try connecting to the router via a different connection. For example, swap between a wireless and wired connection, use a different network interface card, etc. If this helps, then investigate the Maximum Transport Unit settings of your regular connection method.
