When attempting to install or update Star Citizen, players may run into an issue where the launcher repeatedly attempts to download, update, and install the game. We are tracking this issue internally and looking into more permanent solutions. For now, please follow the below steps to solve the issue.
Install to the OS Drive
- Complete the steps for standard launcher troubleshooting before continuing here.
- If the problem persists, delete all instances of the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen from your computer.
- Download the current version of the RSI launcher.
- Install the launcher and the game to the default location (this should be C:\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\)
We recommend installing the game to the same hard drive and partition as your computer's operating system. This will help to avoid any unexpected permissions, partition structure, or other issues that may arise.
Install to a Secondary Drive
If for some reason you are unable to install the game to the same drive as Windows, such as due to disk space limitations, then follow these steps exactly to ensure everything is installed properly.
- Delete all instances of the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen from your computer.
- Download the current version of the RSI launcher.
- Create a folder for the launcher and game on the drive you wish to install the programs. (eg. D:\RobertsSpaceIndustries)
- Begin the install process.
- When asked where to install, set it to the previously created folder in step 3 above.
- Install the launcher.
- Open the RSI Launcher and login. Do not start the install process.
- Click the Settings button.
- Click the Change button below the Library Folder location.
- Set the location to the previously created folder in step 3 above, if it is not already set to that location.
- Once the Library Folder location has been updated, click Install.
