If you have attempted to play Star Citizen and the game refuses to start after hitting "Launch Game" in the RSI Launcher, please review the following troubleshooting steps to diagnose the issue.
As of patch 3.11, Star Citizen requires a computer with the ability to run AVX instructions. Attempting to launch the game on a computer that cannot run this instruction set will immediately result in the game simply failing to launch and no error messaging. In the future we will have much clearer messaging should this be the cause.
If this is the cause of the game failing to launch, since this is a hardware issue RSI Support will not be able to assist.
Star Citizen has certain minimum system requirements required in order for a player's computer to be able the run the game properly. We also have some recommended system specifications as well for a better in-game experience.
To play Star Citizen, a player's computer CPU will need to meet the following specifications in order to properly run the game:
If unsure how to find this information, head to the website for your computer's CPU manufacturer and examine the specifications listed there.
Received an AVX error with an AVX compatible CPU
If you are certain your system has an AVX compatible CPU but are receiving an error when attempting to launch the game, you are running a currently unsupported version of the RSI Launcher.
To be able to resume playing, close and fully uninstall the existing Launcher:
- Right click on the Windows icon and select Run.
- Enter and run %appdata% and click Ok. This opens
- Delete the "rsilauncher" and "RSI Launcher" folders.
- In the file manager, navigate to
C:\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries.
- Delete the entire "RSI Launcher" folder.
Then download the latest version of the launcher from the RSI Website: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/download
The correct RSI Launcher version is v1.4.4.
If your computer's CPU is AVX compatible and the game still will not launch, then you will need to gather your system information files and the game crash logs together and submit a ticket to RSI Support.
Instructions on how to gather the files we will need are here: Send In-Game Files to RSI Support
