This error code is a generic network error and unfortunately it could mean a number of different things. We would also very much appreciate it if you would let us know whether any of the following workarounds worked for you, or how you managed to resolve the issue otherwise, as this will help us assist other backers facing the same issue. You can discuss solutions for the error on Spectrum.
Temporarily Change your System Clock
In certain cases, this may resolve this problem. As of patch 3.17, we've had reports that this can work for many players running into this error recently. We are actively working with our network team and providers on getting a more permanent resolution in place.
Important! It is critical that if you attempt this method of fixing the troubles that you change your system clock back to the current date and time immediately after resolving this issue. Leaving your system clock to the wrong date and time will cause a number of other certification issues with other programs and within Star Citizen itself.
The current steps to resolve this:
- Close and exit the RSI Launcher if it is open.
- Click the Windows Start Menu Icon.
- Select Settings (the gear icon).
- Click on the Time & Language option from the list.
- Within the Date & Time tab, which should open by default, change the "Set time automatically" option to Off.
- Once that has been done, click the Change button under "Set the date and time manually" option (see above).
- In the window that appears, change the date to May 10th.
- Click the Change button in that window to finalize the time update.
- Open the RSI Launcher and login to the game.
- Once you have successfully logged in, change your computer's clock to automatically acquire the current date and time again (See steps 1-5 above).
Reduce Concurrent Downloads
- Open the RSI Launcher.
- Click on the Settings tab on the right side.
- Click the drop down option next to Concurrent Downloads (see above image).
- Select a lower number option than whatever this was set at previously.
Connect via VPN
A VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, and can help with certain connection issues such as latency or routing problems between your home network and the game servers. Since these are third-party programs, we cannot recommend a specific one, but there are several available online.
As always, please be wary when downloading programs over the Internet.
Change DNS Settings
Use Default DNS Settings
DNS stands for Domain Name Server and it is crucial for letting your computer communicate with the Internet. We have seen some reports that issues with this may be causing this error to pop up. If you are using an alternate DNS than the default, follow these steps:
- Click the Windows Start Menu Icon.
- Select Settings (the gear icon).
- Select Network & Internet from the list of options.
- Click Change Adapter Options.
- Right click your active network and select Properties.
- Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" from the list and click Properties.
- When the following window opens, select 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- Restart your computer.
Once the above steps are done, try the RSI Launcher again.
Use Public DNS Options
Some companies such as Cloudflare and Google also provide a DNS service to help people that may need it. These do not cost money to use and can sometimes help alleviate network problems. If using the default DNS acquisition above does not work, try this instead:
- Click the Windows Start Menu Icon.
- Select Settings (the gear icon).
- Select Network & Internet from the list of options.
- Click Change Adapter Options.
- Right click your active network and select Properties.
- Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" from the list and click Properties.
- Select "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 into the preferred and alternate boxes.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- Restart your computer.
Once the above steps are done, try the RSI Launcher again.
Clear the User Settings
It's possible your USER content needs to be rebuilt.
- Open a file explorer.
- Locate the folder: (install drive)\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE
- Delete the USER folder.
- Fully shutdown your computer. This fully clears any remaining Windows memory cache with incorrect or corrupt information.
- After the computer has fully shut off, turn it back on.
- Open the Launcher and try logging in again with your Login ID and password.
Helpful note: The logindata.json file generates and deletes when the RSI Launcher is open. This also helps to keep login information updated. Just in case, fully close the Launcher and make sure the file is definitely removed from (install drive)\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE.
Whitelist Star Citizen and RSI Launcher Files
Ensure the following files are whitelisted in both your firewall and anti-virus (AV) software: RSI Launcher.exe and StarCitizen.exe.
- For help with whitelisting files within Windows, check these links:
- Similarly, whitelist these same files in your AV software.
- The steps to do this will vary depending on what AV program you are using, so you will need to head to the program's website for assistance if you are having trouble with this.
