The 'Verse is a vast place, and unfortunately not all of it is safe. At some point you may find yourself face-to-face (or ship-to-ship) with an alien fighter squad, a pirate scouting party, or simply hostile players that want to take your things. There are also naturally occurring hazards, loss of fuel, and malfunctions to consider. Even the best pilot in the universe may find themselves at the mercy of a planetary storm that can render their ship stranded or worse. The way to ensure that your property will not be lost forever when these events happen is through insurance policies for your ships.
What is insurance?
Pilots in Star Citizen will be able purchase insurance policies in-game for their fleet. This ensures that your ship will be replaced should it be destroyed or stolen.
Currently, on the Alpha and Public Test Universe (PTU), all ships and vehicles are given a basic insurance plan that does not expire to facilitate testing. At this time, it requires no upkeep or fee for players to acquire basic ship loss coverage. There may be a fee to file a claim or expedite a replacement, however.
How do I file an insurance claim?
Should your ship or vehicle be destroyed, stolen, or stranded halfway across the 'verse from you somehow, you will need to file a claim to replace it. Alternately, filing a claim on a ship can function as a work around to resolve some ship-related bugs, such as the doors not working for some reason. Be aware that doing this will carry a UEC cost for the service!
To file an Insurance Claim:
- Visit an ASOP terminal.
- Browse through the ship list to find the vehicle or ship you need to file a claim on. Remember, file a claim on your vehicle first, ship second.
- Click Claim.
- On the next screen, you should see the location and status correctly.
- Click File a Claim. A claim is entered!
To expedite, access the ASOP terminal and the entries again to expedite.
If you have trouble filing a claim, try switching regions and filing a claim again.
- Exit the Persistent Universe.
- In the Crusader menu, select the Region.
- Select a different region.
- Enter game and try filing a claim.
How does an insurance claim affect ships that have been through the customizer? What happens to my equipment loadouts after a claim?
In these cases, barring any known issues, filing an insurance claim on your customized ship will return it to you with all your personal touches and equipment loadouts intact.
I am Upgrading a ship with an option that also includes insurance. How does this affect the starting insurance on the pledge itself?
When using an upgrade that includes an insurance option to transform one of your ships, the resulting upgraded pledge will technically have both forms of insurance. However, only the insurance with the higher value/duration will be used. Applying an upgrade with insurance to a single ship in a package will also upgrade the insurance for the package as a whole, assuming the upgrade has a higher duration than the base package insurance.
If for some reason this is not the case, please report this on the Issue Council and include the ship or pledge package, the upgrade applied, and the insurance levels involved.
My pledge comes with 2/3/6/n month insurance. When does this time start?
The insurance period included in many pledges available now will have some duration in months as indicated in the pledge details. This time will not begin until the game is live and out of testing altogether.
Will my insurance carry over to ships I have upgraded?
When you upgrade your ship, only the relevant ship within the pledge with be changed. All the original contents (game package, starter credits, etc) included with the the package remain unchanged. This is noted on the Ship Upgrade page. You cannot exchange the insurance during a ship upgrade.
Currently, all insurance plans for ships cannot be modified and there are no plans to change this. When you upgrade the ship, it retains the current insurance on the pledge unless the upgrade specifically has a new, longer duration insurance plan (see above). We cannot move or change the insurance on your pledges.
Will insurance carry over to ships I earn in the finished game when it is released?
Once the game has released, the plan is for insurance policies to be purchased on an individual basis for each ship using UEC. Owning a pledge that includes say, a 6-month insurance plan will not automatically apply that same plan to any other ships that are acquired in game after launch.
What is Lifetime Insurance (LTI) and how do I get it?
Lifetime Insurance, or LTI as it is commonly referred to, is a special insurance policy that will cost the insured player no extra UEC payments to maintain their coverage. Only those specific pledges that are noted to include LTI will have this "free" coverage once the game goes live.
Players will still need to cover the cost of insurance claims and repairs, regardless of if their ship is covered by LTI or some other standard, finite-length plan.
LTI is offered rarely with certain pledges and promotions. These may include past Kickstarter pledges, Concept Promotions, and extremely high value pledges like the Idris.
RSI Support cannot add this to pledges upon request.
I'm encountering an error when attempting to file a claim.
