Many players seek ways to stand out and customizing their ships is one of the many ways to do this. Options to customize ships to their pilot's liking are still in development and the landscape of choices will expand as the game develops. Another unique option that is available on certain ships is the serial number.
What is the serial number?
All ships have some sort of serial number attached to them for identification purposes. For the majority, this will be a randomly generated code consisting of both letters and numbers that is applied to the ship when it's acquired.
In other cases, such as on certain limited run or rare pledge ships, some pilots will be granted a unique, more structured serial number that is displayed on the ship itself. This will appear independent of any paints or ship livery changes that are made. An example of one of these is pictured below:
Can I customize my Serial Number?
No. This number is assigned when the ship is acquired and cannot be manually changed like a ship name can.
Serial Numbers and Ship Buy-Backs
If a ship or vehicle that has a serial number is reclaimed for store credit, if and when it is reacquired through the buy back tool, the serial number will update to reflect the most recent number that is next in the sequence for that model and make of ship. Pilots that want to keep theirs should not reclaim their vessel.
RSI Support staff cannot update or correct serial numbers that are changed due to reclaiming and buying back a ship.
