Unless there has been some serious server or hosting outages, one can generally expect the RSI website to remain functioning. However, sometimes that may not be the case on an individual basis. There could be a number of reasons for this. To do some website troubleshooting for any problems you might be running into, check the things below.
Check Your Internet Connection
The most basic step of all is to ensure that your network connection from your computer or mobile device to the site is working properly. This is not something that RSI Support is going to be able to help diagnose or fix, but some basic steps are to restart any routers or modems. Sometimes restarting your computer or mobile device can accomplish a refresh of the network connection as well.
For in-depth network troubleshooting you will need to look around online or possibly contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Use a Private Browser Window
This is a fairly easy step to do.
-
Open a new private browsing window
- This may be called something different depending on the browser that you are using.
- In the new private window, go to the RSI website.
- Attempt to do what you were attempting to do before, be it login, go to Spectrum, or view your hangar.
If it works in this window, that means the issue with the browser's cache or cookies. You can clear these in the browser settings, usually under privacy and security options. If you are unsure, head to the website of your browser of choice and check their help and support section for instructions on clearing browser cache and cookies.
Disable Browser Addons
Many times an addon or program designed to change or enhance a website or the entire browser in some way can cause problems with the normal functioning of any site specific functions, like menu bars or on-page pop ups. A common conflict is translation addons that translate the site into a language other than English.
If you are running any browser addons, regardless of the browser you might be using, disabling the browser addons for the RSI site should be the first step for troubleshooting any weird functionality issues, such as blank login windows for example.
If the issue goes away with addons disabled, re-enable them one by one to narrow down which one is causing the trouble.
Consider also combining this with the above by testing in a private browser window.
Check for Conflicting Programs and Apps
Sometimes computer programs can interact in unexpected ways. Most can work together without any trouble, but with our increasingly always online world, many new apps have added functionality to monitor and protect us from hostile sites and scripts. One notable example is the "Web Protect" function in NordVPN, which can sometimes interfere with normal and safe websites.
If you are using a program with some kind of online web browsing protection feature, temporarily disable it or whitelist the RSI Website within the app to see if the problem stops.
Anti-virus/anti-malware programs typically have some sort of functionality to defend against malicious websites and browser scripts too, but it is not a good idea to totally disable these to check if they are causing the problems. For these, add the RSI website to the program's whitelist.
