Quantum Travel is the method by which players of Star Citizen navigate the vast distances between planetary bodies in the Verse, whether you are traveling to an Outpost on the surface of Yela to pick up questionable materials or meeting a friend at the M&V bar in Lorville, your ship's Quantum Drive will help you travel around the Verse.
There are three steps to perform a Quantum Jump - Setting your destination, preparing your Quantum Drive (known as spooling), and finally, hitting JUMP!
Set your destination
To travel to a distant location, you must first set the destination using your MobiGlas, your wrist-worn personal device. This device provides a vast amount of information and functionality, and specifically for this guide, it provides access to the Star Map. This map shows locations around the Verse to explore.
Star Map Controls
- F2 | View Star Map
- Mouse Scroll | Zoom in & out
- Left Mouse | Rotate view
- Right Mouse | Drag view
To access the Star Map PressF2. This will present you with a view of your current location. Double clicking on a point of interest will zoom into that location and present you with a more detailed overview, including landing zones such as Cities and Outposts.
Select your required destination, then select Set Route at the top of your screen. In the top left you will see further details regarding your route, such as how much Quantum Fuel is required and how many jumps will be made en route.
Quantum Jump
Now its time to spool that Quantum Drive! Press F2 to close the MobiGlas. A new marker will have appeared on your screen pointing to your Quantum Jump destination.
Align your ships direction marker with your jump location and your ship's computer will begin to calculate the Quantum Jump. You should see Awaiting Spool at the top of the calibration HUD.
Press B to begin spooling your Quantum Drive, and you will see the percentage complete at the top of the HUD.
Once both hit 100% you are ready to go. Press and hold B to initiate the Quantum Jump and enjoy the journey!
Traveling Planetside
Although you can manually fly down to any location on a planetary body, the quickest method is to Quantum Travel.
As before, you can Press F2 to bring up your Star Map and look around the planetary body to see points of interest, however, when close to the surface, simply Press B to enable your Quantum Drive and new markers designating points of interest will appear on the surface. Solid hexagonal markers are on your side of the planetary body, whereas dashed hexagonal markers are on the other side of the planetary body.
Align your ship with one of the markers to begin jump calculation. As your Quantum Drive is already spooled, wait until the calculation reaches 100% then Press and Hold B to begin your Quantum Jump.
Upon successful completion of your jump, you should arrive 60km from your destination on the surface, perfect for you to fly down and land at your chosen location.
Traveling to a friend
Instead of selecting a physical destination when on the Star Map, you will see your fellow citizen appear at their current location. Select them in the Star Map, then hit Set Route and the MobiGlas will automatically configure the route for you. All you need to do is jump!
