When preparing your system to install the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen game, make sure you have the following Windows files and network configurations set up. Missing files or out of date operating systems can cause stability issues with both the game and the RSI Launcher.
If you bought a new computer, or reformatted your drive with Windows, you should verify you have the following files and settings configured before installing the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen.
- For Windows version N or KN, make sure you have the latest Media Pack for Windows. If you have Windows home or pro in the US, you do not need this pack.
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5.2
- Make sure all of your Windows updates have fully installed.
Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015 and 2017
You require both Visual C++ Redist for 2015 and 2017. Verify you have these installed:
- Right-click on Windows button and select Search.
- Search for Remove a Program. Depending on your Windows version, open Uninstall Programs or Add and Remove Programs.
- Check the list for Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable and Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable.
If you do not see 2015 installed, do the following:
- Select Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable and uninstall.
- Download and install version 2015: Microsoft official link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52685
- After you complete the install, download and install version 2017: Microsoft official link https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=746572
- You can verify your versions by opening Uninstall Programs or Add and Remove Programs.
- When your installs complete, open the Launcher and launch Star Citizen.
Check your firewall and router for the following settings. These are helpful/required to fully install and run the Launcher and games. If you have errors including 10002, 30007, or 15006, your Internet Service Provider could be blocking ports, throttling, or other configurations on their side.
- Proxy services are turned off, disabled, or properly configured.
- Whitelist .exes: Ensure out files are whitelisted in your firewall: RSI Launcher.exe and StarCitizen.exe.
If whitelisting in Windows Firewall does not work, you may want to remove or disable the firewall and try launching the game.
- Check Ports: Ensure TCP 8000 - 8020 UDP 64090 - 64110 ports are permitted out/opened in your firewall/router.
- This article can help for adding ports to a router.
- You may need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to also have them update and check your ports for your account. Some players were able to get this solved with their help.
- Using a VPN: Some users may need to create and play from a VPN. If VPN works, but not opening ports locally, you need to contact your ISP to have ports opened.
Ensure our files are whitelisted: RSI Launcher.exe and StarCitizen.exe.
For some anti-virus applications including Avast, Kaspersky, and Panda, you will need to whitelist all Star Citizen directories:
- (install drive)\Roberts Space Industries and all files and subfolders
- This folder also includes StarCitizen and RSI Launcher
- If you add PTU, you will also have a StarCitizenPTU and RSI PTU Launcher
If you have issues with installs or updates, your anti-virus may be blocking access beyond whitelisting. You can check the logs and reports for blocked applications, sites, ports, and more. You can configure the anti-virus further to help allow access for Star Citizen and the Launcher.
